Petrified

We've just passed one week on the trip and have made it about halfway across the country. Man, there is so much beautiful open space in this Nation it defies description!

I know, I know...the blog has taken a bit of a back seat but worry not followers, I'll get her crankin' along in due time.

Whew, where to start....last left you guys outside of Phoenix last Monday and from there we moved the wagon train on towards Taos, NM where we spent a coupla nites. On the way we cruised thru the Mogollon (pronounced Mow- gee (ryhmes with key)- on) Rim country. I worked on a large water supply project for a huge golf course development there many years ago so I was somewhat familiar with the area but it is much nicer visiting it without having to concentrate on work, you know you can take it in a little better when you're relaxed and cruising.

Picture of info board at the Rim. Google it...this rock escarpment stretches from Utah thru AZ and into NM, impressive country and quite beautiful.

Next overnite was in the Petrified Forest which was really windy and somewhat, meh. It was cool to see some of the petrified rocks but a bit out of the way and the terrain was fairly consistent. If coming thru I would recommend getting off I-40 and going to the visitor center at the NP entrance and looking around a bit. The rest of the 30 mile long drive thru the park is pretty much more of the same.

Photo is the entrance monument to the city of Holbrook, AZ outside of Petrified Forest NP which depicts a cowboy atop a set of petrified logs with a native American looking upwards...hmmm. Debbie had her thoughts about this set up so I leave that conversation to your imagination!

Next on to Taos, NM where we had an enjoyable coupla nites at a cool park in town that felt like you were in the country. Very pretty place that, like most of the world right now, is slowly crawling out from the pandemic. Lot's of shuttered businesses trying to get going again and tourism starting to ramp up. Seems the biggest struggle is to hire staff as patience has been our mantra whilst visiting restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

Here's me enjoying the fine evening air at sunset in Taos.

We walked around the plaza, yes, Debbie's new knee is coming along nicely and she's thrilled to be able to stroll around again with little pain.

We are doing fine guys, I will do a separate post on the next stops so talk with you guys soon.
Thanks for tuning in and again, apologies for the lapse in posts.

As I finish this up it just reminds me of how I enjoy putting these posts together. It gives me a chance to write, which I enjoy, and to remember the fine moments we have been having.

Peace out,
Debbie and Howard
